GE 50 Pint Dehumidifier ADER50LN Review

The GE 50 Pint Dehumidifier ADER50LN is a medium to large capacity dehumidifier capable of a maximum water extraction rate of 50 pints per day.

In almost all respects the ADER50LN is identical to the 65 pint model in the GE range, the ADER65LN. GE is one of the foremost dehumidifier brands and the ADER50LN is one of the best dehumidifier models in the medium capacity class.

In the vast majority of dehumidifier reviews written by consumers this unit is positively rated and we have no hesitation in recommending it to our visitors.

The GE 50 Pint Dehumidifier ADER50LN has now been replaced on the production line by the virtually identical GE 50 Pint Dehumidifier ADER50LP. The ADER50LN is still available at many stores and from online retailers and may be purchased with confidence. If you wish to see a review of the the latest model please follow the link below. Naturally you will find our review of the ADER50LP very similar to the one on this page.

GE ADER50LP 50 Pint Dehumidifier Review

The differences are in the water extraction rate, 50 rather than 65 pints per day, the lower power consumption and the slightly lower weight of 42lbs. Because most of the comments, including consumer reactions, made about the ADER65LN refer equally to the GE ADER50LN they will not be repeated. To see those remarks follow this link to the ADER65LN. The page opens in a new window, for your convenience, so you may switch from one page to the other if you find this helpful.

This page will concentrate on the factors which it may be helpful to consider if you are trying to decide between the GE 50 Pint Dehumidifier and the 65 pint machine.

What are the Differences?

Obviously the lower running cost of the GE 50 Pint Dehumidifier ADER50LN is an advantage, as is its slightly lower weight. There is also a difference in price and the ADER65LN could cost as much as $50 more to buy. If the size of the area in which you intend to locate the dehumidifier is comfortably within its capacity there is nothing to decide, the 50 pint is the model for you. If the 50 pint model will only just cope with the area you have in mind it is a little more complicated.

A larger model will take less time to reach your desired level of relative humidity so it will run for fewer hours of the day. This will have an impact on running costs.

Aside from cost there is the issue of noise. Both the GE ADER50LN Dehumidifier and the ADER65LN are relatively quiet appliances but there is always noise from dehumidifiers from both the compressor and the fan. Shorter operating time means less time when that noise is being heard.

To get the best water extraction from your dehumidifier you have to increase the speed of the fan. Both these machines have three fan speeds and the lower the fan speed the lower the noise level.

In summary, the larger machine will run for fewer hours to do the job and/or it can run at a lower fan speed, which means a lower noise level, some or all of the time.

A recommendation cannot be made as the choice depends on your personal preferences and priorities. If the nuisance of noise is more important to you than the cost of the dehumidifier you will make a different decision from the person for whom minimising costs has the first priority.
