Frigidaire FAD504DWD 50 Pint Dehumidifier Review

The Frigidaire FAD504DWD 50 Pint Dehumidifier is a medium capacity unit in this range of four dehumidifiers. Fewer 50 pint units are sold than 70 pint models but sizeable numbers of the FAD504DWD have been purchased since its introduction and it is still readily available from many retailers. Reviews are plentiful and demonstrate clearly that this model is well regarded by most of its users.

The FAD504DWD is certified by Energy Star® and is capable of keeping dry a basement, or other area of your home, with a floor area of up to 800 square feet. If your basement is exceptionally cool, below 60°F for extended periods, this model is not ideal for the task but at a temperature that is comfortable for you and your family you should get very good results.

The FAD504DWD is a tried and tested appliance that has given excellent service to large numbers of users. It is compact, portable, fairly quiet and very effective and we have no hesitation in recommending it to our visitors.

Features

Adjustable Humidistat - The humidistat works together with an accurate humidity sensor to control the moisture content of your home. Select a percentage that is suitable (45 to 50%) and your basement will be protected from mold and damp damage and will provide you with a comfortable environment to relax or work in.

2 Speed Fan -This feature allows you to choose between either a high fan speed, for faster drying, or a lower speed to reduce the noise made by the dehumidifier and watch TV in comfort.

Automatic Defrost - If you are familiar with dehumidifiers you will know that ice forms on the cold coil from time to time. To protect the appliance and to maintain optimum performance the compressor is turned off when ice is detected and the flow of air driven by the fan melts the ice.

On/Off Timer - This feature allows you to program your dehumidifier to turn on or turn off at any time within the following 24 hours.

Auto Restart - If your home suffers from a power outage the auto restart feature switches the dehumidifier back on, at the settings you selected, as soon as the power is restored.

Continuous Drainage Option - Emptying the water collection container can be an unwelcome chore. If you would prefer to have one job less you can attach a length of hosepipe to an outlet in the appliance and let the water drain to a suitable outlet. The outlet must be at floor level as continuous drainage is by gravity feed alone.

Full Tank Indicator - If you choose to use the bucket you will be prompted to empty it by an indicator on the appliance. If you are not able to empty it there and then the water will not leak from the appliance as an Automatic Shutoff feature stops the unit to prevent water seepage.

Washable Filter - The dehumidifier is protected by an air filter to capture airborne particles. In order to do its job the filter needs to be clean and to make this easier for you the filter is washable. This small maintenance task should be carried out every two weeks or so to keep your appliance working at its best.

Portability - The FAD504DWD weighs just 37 pounds and may be moved easily on its four casters or carried with the handle provided.

Provided it is used in an area not exceeding the recommended maximum of 800 square feet the FAD504DWD is reported to be effective and easy to use.

This model lacks the clean appearance of its successor, the FFAD5033R1 but it is a proven performer and does the job well and economically.

Although it is in the process of being replaced by a successor model the FAD504DWD remains a sound choice while it is available and may be found at an attractive price as stocks run down.
